But the real problem out there on adventure holidays in the Myanmar wilderness are the snakes. Myanmar has the highest mortality on snakebites in the world. After came the British colonialists and conquered Myanmar or Burma all the way from the Indian border to the very south at Victoria point, today Kawthaung. In between was the almost ancient harbor of Mergui and the Islands of the Andaman Sea, today the right place for great adventure excursions on the cost and on the islands plus deep into the deep blue via live aboard scuba diving adventure.

This kind of adventure travel is done out of Phuket, Thailand with comfortable yachts, this scuba adventure travel packages are not cheap stuff at all but good things are never cheep.  The best way to explore the Mergui archipelago during a adventure trip on your vacation is to come down from Yangon with the airplane, there are several airlines offering flights out of Yangon. This are Yangon Air, Air Bagan and Myanma Airways , Myanma Airways is the state owned airline and the name is really written without the -r- at the end. The aircrafts usually use Dawai or Tavoi further north and Mergui or Myeik as a stopover on their way down to Kawthaung, the southernmost town in Myanmar or Burma.

It would be also possible to enter Kawthaung vie Ranong in Thailand, but the visa the Myanmar immigration issues there is only valid for Kawthaung and vicinity. For the rest of the country it needs the official visa application via a Myanmar consulate for your adventure travels.

Mergui was a port of Siam or today Thailand, but after the declaration of war upon Siam by the British East India Company it was annexed to British Burma and remained there. On the islands jungle is still all around, fish traps are kept and the Salone, Moken or Sea Gypsies live on their house boats like they did since hundreds of years.

Salones like dancing and music. Their traditional drum is stretched with monitor lizard’s skin. When used with male monitor lizard’s skin it is called male drum; when used with female monitor lizard’s skin, female drum. Most of Salones or Moken as they are called in Thailand still prefer to live on their boats, usually on a houseboat, also dugouts are used, and enjoy the independent live as “Sea Gypsies”. Some have been settled in the Myeik / Mergui and Kawthaung district. A few settlement are on some islands off the west coast of Thailand, one is in Phuket at Rawai beach.

On your Myanmar adventure vacation trip you would have no nightlife but some great beach parties, take some beer and whisky with you, this would also be a perfect present to the people who let you stay in their beach hut. You could also take some camping gear with you, but its not recommended.

Myanmar tribe culture is characterized by totally different social values and traditions. Traditions usually center around ghosts and daemons, animism in pure, Buddhism has not reached here. The Myanmar or Burmese tribe culture is full of a wide variety of languages as well, every sub tribe of the Chin and Naga e.g. speaks a different language and there are about 130 different ethnic minorities all over Myanmar or Burma, its sometimes a real Babylonian diversity.

Since the topology around  Myanmar Chin state and Myanmar Naga land is very rough, almost no roads for cars, no infrastructure and the Chin and Naga walk over unpaved road when they have to go somewhere. Myanmar walking adventure or trekking adventure would be for sure.
